Statement on My Political History and Commitment to Richmond Centre–Marpole

As I seek the nomination to represent Richmond Centre–Marpole, I want to clarify my political journey and reaffirm my unwavering commitment to the Conservative Party of Canada and its values.

Since 2004, I have been a proud member and supporter of the federal Conservative Party. Over the past two decades, I have actively participated in federal election campaigns in Richmond Centre, supporting Alice Wong and other Conservative candidates. I have also made consistent financial contributions to the party and attended national conventions, including Calgary (2013) and Quebec (2023), to help shape the party’s direction and policies. Furthermore, I have served as a director on the Richmond Conservative Party Electoral District Association (EDA) for several terms, contributing to the local organization and strengthening our party’s presence in the community.

In 2017, I made the decision to briefly associate with the BC NDP during the provincial election, a choice made under exceptional circumstances. For years, Richmond’s aging hospital tower, built in 1966, had been a growing concern for the community. The facility was outdated, overcrowded, and unable to meet the needs of our residents. Richmond City Council had passed several motions urging the provincial government to take action, but the Liberal government under Premier Christy Clark failed to respond or commit to replacing the hospital tower. The community’s frustration was palpable, and the lack of progress made it clear that immediate advocacy was needed.

During the 2017 provincial election, the BC NDP, led by John Horgan, promised to build a new hospital tower for Richmond. This critical infrastructure project was a top priority for me and our community. Understanding the importance of seizing this opportunity, I agreed to run under the BC NDP banner to push for the replacement project. While I did not win, I am proud that the hospital tower commitment was ultimately fulfilled, bringing much-needed benefits to Richmond.

Despite this brief provincial association, my values have always been firmly aligned with Conservative principles. Shortly after the 2017 provincial election, I resumed advocating for policies that reflect my deeply held beliefs, including opposing cannabis and other drug legalization. I presented to the Senate Committee, led local efforts against drug legalization, and consistently voted against establishing a supervised injection site as a Richmond city councillor. These actions underscore my strong opposition to federal NDP policies and my commitment to protecting our community from harmful initiatives.

My core values have never changed: fighting drugs, being tough on crime, reducing taxes, growing the economy, and protecting our children and seniors. These principles have guided my work over the years and continue to shape my vision for Richmond Centre–Marpole.

I have a proven record of delivering results for our community and remain committed to representing the residents of Richmond Centre–Marpole with strength and integrity in Ottawa. Thank you for your continued support as we work toward a stronger, safer, and more prosperous future.
